Take time to wander through its historic prayer halls, take in the views of the valley, and interact with the resident monks.
Crossing Kunzum Pass
Drive 65 km (3 to 4 hours) through Losar Village—the final outpost in Spiti—before climbing to the top of the towering Kunzum Pass (4,551 meters). Take in the thin air, admire the massive glaciers, and visit the Kunzum Mata Temple to seek blessings for a safe journey.
Milky Way Camping at Chandratal
Drive an hour down rough roads to the Chandratal Base Parking area and check into your mountain camp. From there, embark on a scenic 2 km (30-minute) trek to Chandratal Lake (The Moon Lake). Watch the crystal-clear blue waters seamlessly shift colors as the sun dips below the peaks. Spend your night enjoying a warm meal and camping out under a brilliant sky filled with millions of stars and a clear view of the Milky Way.
Traveler’s Note: Due to the remote location, accommodations at Chandratal Lake consist of rugged wilderness campsites arranged on a multiple-sharing basis. Pack your heaviest winter layers, thermals, and beanies, as temperatures routinely plummet below freezing after dusk!
