Day 1: Gateway to the Kingdom – Arrival & Phuentsholing
Your journey begins at Bagdogra Airport. After a warm welcome, we drive toward the border town of Phuentsholing, the bustling gateway where India meets Bhutan.
- Immigration: We will complete the necessary formalities to enter the kingdom.
- Relax: Settle into your hotel and enjoy a traditional dinner as you prepare for the mountain air.
Traveler’s Note: Keep your original Passport (with 6 months validity) or Voter ID handy at all times for smooth clearance at the border.
Day 2: Into the Heart of the Mountains – Phuentsholing to Thimphu
After breakfast, we begin our scenic ascent toward the capital city, Thimphu.
- Milarepa Lhakhang: Visit this peaceful monastery near Kharbandi.
- Photogenic Stops: Capture the beauty of the Wangkha Waterfall and the Gedu Stupa, which offers panoramic mountain views.
- Chuzom: Witness the confluence of the Thimphu and Paro rivers before arriving in the city.
Traveler’s Note: The drive to Thimphu is winding. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider bringing light ginger chews or medication for the journey.
Day 3: The Valley of Fortresses – Punakha Excursion
Today we venture to Punakha, the ancient capital of Bhutan, crossing high mountain passes.
- Dochula Pass: Stand at 3,100m and marvel at 108 memorial stupas against a backdrop of the Himalayas.
- Chimi Lhakhang: Take a gentle walk through a scenic village to visit the famous “Fertility Temple”.
- Punakha Dzong: Explore this majestic fortress situated at the junction of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers.
- Suspension Bridge: Walk across one of Bhutan’s longest bridges for stunning river views.
Traveler’s Note: The local vegetable market in Punakha is a great place to see unique Himalayan produce like dried yak cheese and red rice.
Day 4: Cultural Immersion – Thimphu to Paro
Before leaving Thimphu, we explore its most iconic landmarks before heading to the serene Paro valley.
- Great Buddha Dordenma: Visit one of the largest seated Buddha statues in the world.
- National Takin Preserve: Meet the Takin, Bhutan’s unique national animal.
- Heritage & Tradition: Visit the Folk Heritage Museum and try on the Gho or Kira, Bhutan’s elegant national dress.
- Paro Riverside Walk: End the day with a peaceful stroll by the river in Paro.
Traveler’s Note: When visiting monasteries (Lhakhangs), remember to remove your shoes and hats, and ensure your shoulders and knees are covered.
Day 5: The Iconic Ascent – Tiger’s Nest or Chele La
Today offers two incredible ways to experience the high Himalayas.
- Option 1: Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest): Embark on a full-day guided hike to Bhutan’s most legendary landmark, clinging to a cliffside 900 meters above the valley floor.
- Option 2: Chele La Pass: Drive to the highest motorable road in Bhutan (3,988m) for breathtaking views of Mt. Jomolhari.
Traveler’s Note: If you choose the Tiger’s Nest hike, start early! Please note that lunch expenses on the day of the hike are not included in the package.
Day 6: The Gentle Descent – Paro to Siliguri
Bid farewell to the high mountains as we drive back toward the border.
- Airport Viewpoint: Stop for a final photo of Paro Airport, one of the most challenging and beautiful airports in the world.
- Siliguri Stay: After crossing back into India at Phuentsholing, we proceed to Siliguri for our final overnight stay.
Traveler’s Note: Use your final afternoon in Paro Town to shop for local handicrafts and authentic Himalayan souvenirs.
Day 7: Homeward Bound – Departure
