From shimmering saltwater lakes to the highest motorable roads on the planet, get ready to explore the best places to visit in Leh and beyond. Pack your bags, because the mountains are calling!

Day 1: Touchdown in the Paradise of Kashmir (Kochi to Srinagar)

Your grand Himalayan adventure begins as you fly out from Kochi.

Welcome to Srinagar

Upon landing in Srinagar, you will be picked up directly from the airport and transferred to your hotel. Take the evening to relax and acclimatize to the fresh mountain air before enjoying a delicious dinner and an overnight stay in Srinagar.

Traveler’s Note: Even in the summer, Srinagar evenings can be quite breezy. Keep a light jacket or windcheater accessible in your hand luggage so you are comfortable right from the moment you land!

Day 2: The Meadow of Gold and the Gateway to Ladakh (Srinagar to Kargil)

Buckle up for your first major road trip as we head toward the historical town of Kargil.

Sonmarg and the Zoji La Pass

After breakfast, we proceed to Kargil via Sonmarg, famously known as the “meadow of gold”. You will witness the breathtaking snow-covered mountains of Sonmarg, visit the pristine Vishansar Lake, drive through the rugged Zoji La Pass, and halt at the Shutkari Bridge.

The Drass Valley War Memorial

As we continue the road trip, we enter the Drass Valley. This poignant location is where the Kargil war took place, and you will see the exact location where the Pakistani Army dropped shells. We will arrive at our hotel in Kargil for check-in, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Pro-Tip: The drive through Zoji La Pass is thrilling but famously bumpy. If you are prone to motion sickness, take your medication after breakfast before the drive begins.

Day 3: Monasteries, Magnetic Hills, and Moonscapes (Kargil to Leh)

Today, we transition from the green valleys of Kashmir into the stark, mesmerizing deserts of Ladakh.

The Road to Leh

Morning starts with a drive to Leh. Along the way, we visit Mulbekh to see the Giant Living Buddha Sculpture carved into a rock mountain, and Lamayuru, one of Ladakh’s oldest monasteries overlooking the unique “Moon Landscape”. We will stop in Khaltse for a hot lunch.

Optical Illusions and River Confluences

Continuing toward Leh, you will witness the beautiful Sham Valley, the gravity-defying Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, and the stunning confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. We reach Leh by evening, where we will visit the War Memorial and Shanti Stupa before settling in for dinner and an overnight stay.

Traveler’s Note: You will gain significant altitude today. Hydration is your best defense against Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Drink plenty of water throughout the drive and avoid strenuous physical activity upon reaching Leh.

Day 4: Desert Dunes and the Highest Roads (Leh to Nubra Valley)

Prepare yourself to conquer incredible heights and ride through a high-altitude desert.

Conquering Khardungla Pass

After breakfast, we drive to Nubra Valley via the legendary Khardungla Pass. Situated at a staggering altitude of 18,379 ft above sea level, it is one of the highest motorable roads in the world and makes you feel like you are at the top of the world.

The Sands of Hundar

We arrive at Hundar by afternoon for lunch at the camp. The rest of the day is yours to explore Deskit, Hundar Village, and enjoy a camel safari in the sand dunes. We will also visit the Diskit Monastery to marvel at the Giant Statue of Maitreya Buddha and enjoy a magnificent view of the Nubra Valley. Dinner and overnight stay will be in Nubra Valley.

Pro-Tip: The air at Khardungla Pass is extremely thin. Limit your time outside the vehicle to 15-20 minutes to take photos, and avoid running or jumping to prevent dizziness.

Day 5: The Blue Expanse of the Himalayas (Nubra to Pangong to Leh)

Today features one of the most iconic and photographed locations in all of Ladakh.

The Majestic Pangong Lake

After checking out, we proceed to Pangong Lake. Sitting at 14,500 ft, this breathtakingly beautiful body of water is the highest saltwater lake in the world and is shared by India and China.

The Changla Pass Descent

After spending quality time by the lake’s ever-changing blue waters, we return to Leh via the Changla Pass. At 17,350 ft, Changla is the second highest motorable road after Khardungla. We end the day with dinner and an overnight stay in Leh.

Traveler’s Note: The wind speeds at Pangong Lake can make it feel freezing, even when the sun is shining. Layer up with thermal wear, a windproof jacket, and a warm beanie for your lakeside visit!

Day 6: Culture and Heritage in the Capital (Leh Local Visit)

Take a break from the long drives and immerse yourself in the rich local culture of Leh.

Exploring Leh City

This day is dedicated entirely to local sightseeing. After breakfast, we will visit the historic Leh Palace, the War Memorial Hall, and the peaceful Shanti Stupa. We will also explore the Leh Museum and give you free time to wander and shop at the vibrant Leh Market. Enjoy dinner and another overnight stay in Leh.

Pro-Tip: The Leh Market is the perfect place to pick up souvenirs! Look out for authentic Pashmina shawls, silver jewelry, and beautiful Tibetan prayer wheels. Don’t forget to try some local apricot jam.

Day 7: The Journey South (Leh to Jispa)

We bid farewell to Leh and begin our spectacular journey southward.

The Taglangla Route

Morning starts with a scenic journey towards Jispa via the Taglangla pass. This is widely considered one of the most beautiful routes in the Himalayan sector. You will have the chance to witness the amazing, picturesque views of expansive meadows and deep valleys before checking in for dinner and an overnight stay in Jispa.

Traveler’s Note: The dramatic landscapes between Leh and Jispa are unparalleled. Keep your camera batteries fully charged and your memory cards clear—you will be taking photos non-stop!

Day 8: Tunnels and Transit (Jispa to Manali to Delhi)

We leave the high mountains behind and make our way back toward civilization.

The Atal Tunnel and Volvo Journey

After breakfast, we drive from Jispa to Manali. En route, we will drive through the engineering marvel that is the Atal Tunnel. Upon arriving in Manali, you will be transferred to the Volvo point to board a comfortable Volvo bus for an overnight journey to Delhi.

Pro-Tip: For the overnight Volvo journey to Delhi, pack a small transit bag with a neck pillow, an eye mask, some light snacks, and a power bank to ensure maximum comfort.

Day 9: Journey’s End (Delhi Drop)

Your grand Himalayan expedition comes to a close.

Homeward Bound

Upon arrival at the Delhi Volvo Point, you will be picked up and transferred to a hotel. Here, you can freshen up and enjoy a final breakfast. Afterward, you will check out and be transferred to the airport for your departure flight home.

Traveler’s Note: Before checking out of the transit hotel in Delhi, double-check your bags to ensure you haven’t left any chargers or travel documents behind in the room!
